We told Congress that we are tired of fat cats continued attacks on working America and that every American who puts in a hard day’s work deserves a chance at the American Dream.
Here are just some of the stories we heard that night
“Once upon a time in this country a person could work just one job, support their family and have a decent life. Now working class people are working harder than ever and longer than ever for less money than ever…We can do better here in New York. Won’t you do what it takes to help us create good jobs and protect the next generation?” Read more
“Cuts in jobs. Cuts in hours. Cuts in services the public counts on. Cuts in opportunities to get ahead” Read more
“ I spent my 48th birthday in the emergency room from an asthma attack. That could have been prevented if I had health insurance. I would have been able to see a doctor before my asthma put me in the hospital if I had insurance…Congress members we are not asking for much. We just want to take care of our families and live with dignity. Can you help us?” Read more
“Every parent wants to give their children opportunities: congress members think of how you would feel if you couldn’t give your children every opportunity, if you always had to tell them “no.” And things are only getting worse. Every time there are cuts poor people like me are the ones who suffer.” Read more
The Congressional Progressive Caucus has heard our message and will be taking it back to Washington but it is up to us to keep up the fight. Now more than ever as working America is under constant pressure, we must work together so that we all have our chance at the American Dream
